How it
actually works.

PT-141 (bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide melanocortin receptor agonist developed as a more receptor-selective analogue of Melanotan-2, with preferential affinity for MC3R and MC4R over MC1R. This selectivity shifts the pharmacological profile away from melanogenesis toward central nervous system pathways associated with sexual arousal — specifically the melanocortinergic circuits in the medial preoptic area (MPOA) of the hypothalamus.
